Oh a race as not many out there! So here are few words about the race near Venice.
Luckly for me it was very short drive just over an hour. I was little bit not looking forward to it as in Veneto it was raining that morning. The weather changed and it didn’t rain.
The race location Trattoria Valle Averto supports the WWF Oasy of valle averto.
The WWF Oasis Valle Averto is a typical fishing valley of the Venetian Lagoon, the only one closed for hunting.
The Natural Reserve Valle Averto is located within a site of community importance in the municipality of campagna lupia (VE). It is also a special protection area.
The area, about 200 hectares, includes wide mirrors of brackish water, reeds, woods, canals inside the most famous wet area in the world.
The race had bikejor, dog scooter and canicross categories. It was great to see again the racing and see my youngster to get excited when seeing other starting.
In the morning there was veterinary control between 8-10am, an easy smoothly pass and we were good to go with Roger. Yes, it was Roger turn since Laferra still “takes it easy” after being spayed.
The area seems to be very busy with hunters, which make me a little bit anxious as it sounded like fireworks, and that what Roger doesn’t like. He knew it is race time, so wasn’t really bothered about it (uff).
Our class was surprisingly very small so I could relax and have fun with my boy. On the other hands the veterans classes were full of great athletes.
At 10am there was briefing with details for the race and all important points. Great to see that all athletes actually attended and listened to the organisers. So here we go. Roger was super excited and this race was another experience for us, as they were letting us start in mini mass start of 3 athletes. I know how much Roger loves the mass start.
Off we go! I thought we will take it slightly easy, as Roger recently wasn’t really keen on running, but that start he was loving it. First part of the race fantastic soft trails around bushes with hidden birds. Passing the marshal and great taping with signs, we continue to run and I can just see how my monkey is loving it. The second part of the trails were again super soft, but also very twisty with little mud, but we continue. Roger is faultless on every turn and listens to me as always 100%.
The last part of the trails was so exciting as you could see the finish but it was a loop around the pond for around 300m, oh such a great fun!.
After races I could grab a quick lunch at the tratoria, which had really nice choices and risotto was delicious. Everyone seem to be very friendly and defo a race to be back next year.
Note; yes I think Masi needs a little bit more practise on that podium pose 😉
